Renovation of the Ozamiz City Public Library
A public library is a nonprofit library maintained for public use and usually supported in whole or in part by local taxation (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). It is a place where locals of a certain place or even people from other places can access different books and other things, like, the old and new documents of the place and its history.
This project is about renovating the public library in the city of Ozamiz. It is a town in the Misamis Occidental province. A public library in Ozamiz City that is located in Laurel Street was built for students and town people to go to and enjoy reading the different types of books found there and for other people to know the history of the said town. However, over the years, the world has progressed and developed. People have become modernized and things have changed since then but the public library stayed the same over time – old and outdated.
The vision of the Local Readers Community – Ozamiz is to provide good services to the people who will use the said establishment so that their time used in going to the public library will be utilized and meaningful. On the other hand, the mission of the organization is to save public libraries from extinction and regain back their purpose – to provide people with information they need efficiently for free.
The purpose of this project is to renovate the old and outdated public library in Ozamiz City and turn it into a new and modernized one. To make the library new and modernized, books will be updated, new computer units will be installed, and a coffee area will be put up. This project is intended to help preserve the public library in city and make it useful again for the students and the people. This is important for the people of Ozamiz, especially the students so that they can have access to not only books but technology and leisure as well. This project will be a great help to the students when it comes to researching and doing assignments and school works.
The city library is located at Laurel Street, Ozamiz City. It is a place where people, especially students spend time in reading and researching from books, magazines, journals, and even the internet. It is also a leisure place for people and a place filled with knowledge. But as time passed, people going into the library have decreased because the library has not been updated and t. And therefore, a renovation is needed to answer the needs of the people using the library.
To successfully implement the vision of the project, the organization will need the support of the Ozamiz City Government for the city owns the said library. And also the support of the NGO or Non-Government Office and DepEd or Department of Education for they will provide the needed materials and workers for the renovation of the city library. Lastly, they also need the support of the people, mostly students who goes to the city library often for they are one of the beneficiaries of the said project.
The organization aims to create a Change.org petition, a Facebook group, and Twitter account to help achieve our goals. We will be creating an infographic and other related information connected to the advantages and disadvantages of renovation the city library. The said project is only applicable to City’s administration, to school’s administration, student’s parents and other people who wants to make a difference to sign the petition.
It will take 6 months to successfully renovate the said library and it will need a lot of money for the materials needed for the laborers. But before the said implementation, the people are interviewed to be able to know if the said project should be continued or not.
The overwhelming support of the following are needed for the success of the plan. (1) the Department of Education (DepEd) For they will provide the instructional materials needed in the library, such as books, magazines, and gadgets. (2) City government for they will provide the materials needed for the construction and renovation of the city library such as cement, sand, hollow blocks, and etc. (3) Non-government office for they will be the one who will support the project and during the construction of the said project. And (4) The people for they will be supporting the petition and will be answering interviews if the project should be implemented or not.
