Andrew Lewis started this petition to local people

For the LAST 20 yrs people of the Forest of Dean have asked for the council of Lydney and other Parish Council to support the implementation of a multiple use track stretching from Lydney to Parkend to link up the Forest of Dean.

This is not just to enable cyclists or walkers to get from the town to the rest of the FOD safely but to allow people from the rest of the FOD to access the town.

We have a large amount of tourism in the rest of the Forest who ride bikes by renting them from local businesses, walkers who visit the FOD for its beautiful scenery.

For the past 10 years Lydney Town has been on the decline, the shops are empty and people no longer make the effort to visit.

Very soon we will have a beautiful docks that has been awarded millions of pounds for development. The town hosts a railway that runs from Parkend to Lydney train station and there is talk that the railway may soon extend further than Parkend.

if you live in the Forest of Dean you need to support this, getting a multi use track won’t just help Lydney but people visiting via mainline trains into the Town will maybe access the rest of the Forest.

Recently there was an incident on the B4234 (Forest Road) While a young lad was riding his bike between Whitecroft and Lydney last between 1815 and 1830 a car knocked him off his bike by the steam rail centre.

The car did not stop and drove off, this has not been the only incident on this road.

The frustration for the local people of Lydney is that recently Gloucestershire County Council and certain councillors seem to think that spending over £1,000,000 on the town by putting in cycle lanes will help this situation. How I don’t know?

Have the local people been asked what they want??? I don’t think so.

As a Paralympic Gold medalist and a member of the FOD community for 37 yrs I feel that it’s time to show the local council we have a voice.

My name is Andrew Lewis MBE, I will and always have done everything I can for my community.

To show your support please sign this petition to present to the council that we need this multi use track to make our roads safer.

This won’t just help the people who use the track but parents, friends of people that do as it will he safer for all.

Lots of houses are being built in the Forest, particularly Lydney and soon Whitecroft. Its time to take a stand.

The West Dean Parish Council have always supported this and have money to support however Lydney Town Council need to know what the local people want too.

Please show your support

Best Wishes
