Every day during the summer, spring, and fall you will see anywhere from 50 to 100 individuals loitering at the corners of 63rd and King Dr, Vernon, and Eberhart. This has been an issue for many years. Each year residents have asked the 20th Ward office, Chicago Police Department, Organizations, churches, local businesses to help with this issue. The activity on these blocks facilitates Crime, Violence, Loitering, Littering, Drugs, Public Intoxication. As a resident of this area, for over 20 years,  these problems have continually existed.  Not enough has been done to address these and many other issues.

As a resident of this community and co-founder of Our Legacy, I frequently have conversations with people in my community. I feed them, give clothing donations, implement community programs like the  "Hello Campaign", "Health Awareness", etc. I speak with the individuals and ask them why they continue to hang on these blocks, and the answers are the same: Unemployment, Alcohol and Drug Addictions, Underemployment, Recent Release from Jail, Lack of Resource, etc. More importantly, we allow them to do so.

Residents of the community are conflicted.  We understand the lack of resources and the many issues these individuals are facing but we want to be able to walk in, an exercise in, raise families, and simply enjoy our community. How can we clean up these trouble blocks, create a safe environment, and protect our invested interests?

What are the solutions? We the residents must get involved by using this petition to get our concerns heard. We must let the City of Chicago know we need help from our Alderwoman, Police Department, City Representatives, and Community Representatives. We are not trying to arrest our way out of these problems, but we need them to provide those who are hanging on these blocks with the resources they need and help solve these problems.

Please sign this petition. You do not have to live in this community to help us get our voices and concerns heard.
