- There are seven main religions in Britain - Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism and Judaism. However, holidays in the UK are based around Christianity. Christians can take two weeks off school and two days off work for Christmas holidays, as well as Easter holidays. We believe that everyone should have enough time off work and school depending on their religion. We respect every religion and think that everybody should have at least two to three days off school and work
- Religious holidays in schools are as followed:
- 1.Christians- 2 weeks off for Christmas and 2 weeks off for Easter
- 2. Muslims- 3 days off for Eid (twice a year)
- 3.Hindus- 1 day off for Diwali
- 4.Sikh- 1 day off for Visakhi
- 5.Buddhists- 1 day of for Visakha Bucha Day
- 6.Jews- 1 day off for Yom Kippur
- For instance, I am Muslim and I celebrate Eid. My grandmother lives in Germany. Every year my family and I have to travel to Germany, stay there, celebrate Eid with our close ones and travel back to the UK. 24 hours is NOT enough for this.
If you believe that everyone should have ‘Fair Religious Holidays’ please support us by signing our petition.
