Why it is important to ban the use of plastic bags? 

When we go out to purchase our groceries, usually plastic bags are used because it is very convenient. But what we don’t realize is that these bags come at a very high cost because of it’s negative effects to the environment and to the human health. 

Plastic bags pollute our land and water. Plastic bags are everywhere. Because they are so lightweight, plastic bags get easily picked up by wind and travel long distances by wind and water to pollute the nature. Plastic bag litter has even caused great problems in some areas.

Some disadvantages of using plastics are that they pollute the environment, pose a danger to wildlife, do not degrade quickly and pose difficulties during recycling. 

As an alternative for plastic bags, it is advisable to use eco bags or recyclable paper bags instead. In this way, we can totally disregard the use of plastic while still being able to store our groceries. The suggested alternatives are much more eco-friendly because they are recyclable and if not came from recycled materias.

Several countries all around the globe have already started the “plastic ban” and it is about time that the Region V or Bicol Region takes part in this campaign.
