We stand with Scottie

This petition had 241 supporters

We stand with Scottie Marsh, artist and creator of the much loved mural of George Michael (AKA St George).

As mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters we are deeply hurt and alarmed at the increasing public displays of hate, vilification and mocking of our good will and tolerance.

There is no tolerance and love in seeing our iconography, images and  symbols attacked for no other reason than pure spite and hate.

These murals are openly advocating for peace, love and tolerance of all people, particularly gays.

No group in Australia today experiences the same level of open and direct incitement and hate (except indigenous people, muslims, recent immigrants and refugees).

We don't understand why there is this constant barrage of sustained attacks on love and tolerance in Australian society today.

We stand with Scottie, who was also hurt by these public acts of hate and aggression.

We love this country, we love the free speech it nurtures and welcome an open and tolerant society, that encourages an exchange of ideas.

Free speech is, however, being attacked and abused by the disgraceful defacement of this mural that promotes love and tolerance.

As humans, we don't believe anyone should be attacked for their faith or religious beliefs or lack thereof.

We stand with Scottie who also does not want his art works attacked.

Please sign this petition to make your feelings known and to have Australian society know we do not accept this continued and sustained incitement against peace, love and tolerance in Australia.

Explanation of why this image is promoting peace, love and tolerance:

1) same type of robed clothing used by mystics of many faiths to promote universal love
2) same colour clothing
3) use of a halo - a symbol of connection with the universal divine
4) hands in the position of benediction or well-wishing
5) the term "St George", a deeply revered financial institution in NSW
