Nearly 4,000 dangerous wild animals, including lions, tigers, rattlesnakes and crocodiles, Elephants, venomous lizards, scorpions, lemurs, pumas, cheetahs, wolves, zebras, sun bears and camels are being privately owned, sold and breed legally in the uk. Anyone can apply for a licence granted by local councils for money with little consideration for the animals welfare.

The licencing process requires the applicant to demonstrate that their animals are properly contained so as to prevent escape and protect the public, but this does little to ensure the welfare of the animals or the protection of the owner or anyone else visiting the property and many animals escape.

These exotic pets are kept for ego and or money and if they cannot be returned to the wild they need to be in cared for in sanctuaries.
