The pandemic has accelerated mental health issues to unprecedented levels, resulting in sharp increases in anxiety, loneliness, suicide and self-harm. Men have been strongly affected in particular due to the lack of social support structures they tend to have available and the social stigma men associate with asking peers for help.

It has been reported that as many as 42% of all men contemplated suicide during the pandemic, following on from the fact that ¾ of suicides are committed by males – this is an alarming statistic and local governments have done little to address our men's mental health, and this is a cross-continental problem. Governments haven't provided the support we need.

We’re urging local councils and governments across Canada and the United States to start providing affordable and accessible mental health care options during lockdowns and restrictions, and to continue with these support structures into the foreseeable future.

Sign this petition to signal how many men out there need and desire support, and we'll be working closely with regional governments on implementing changes. We'll be providing them with an action plan, developed from our insights in the men's mental health space, to ensure those whom are suffering from a lack of mental health care have effective and accessible options.

We expect daily and weekly care options, accessible for all people, that prevent crises from happening, such as:

  • Accessible peer counselling
  • Accessible support groups
  • Affordable coaching and group coaching services
  • Affordable options for therapy

Leave a comment to show your support and any suggestions for your fellow men to help them cope going forward.
