I am a young renter of a 1 bed house in the south east where rent is relatively high for the surroundings and leisure options. My rent is nearly 75% of my wages alone leaving me financially crippled and panicked every month. Many others face issues such as myself, and I want to change that. I believe there should be a system where depending on how many bedrooms a property has and the amount of tenant's occupying, a cap on rental prices should be in force. For example a single occupant in a 1 bed house/flat (not studio) shouldnt have to pay no more than £500 a month. Why does simply having a roof over our heads cost the vast majority of earnings (wage dependant) it's criminal and immoral when you see homeless citizens or sheltered family's suffer and struggle to have a roof of their own. Something needs to be done. There has to be cheaper materials to use for building a home and quicker to construct, saving costs and providing everyone the chance to have there own set of keys . Simple designs of box buildings with enough room for basic human essentials. It cant be that difficult for government and citizens to work together so we can live and prosper as a whole. Please consider my ideas for thought and action to give us all a better tomorrow.
