Deri Views nursery provision will he missed by many parents that rely on the childcare of nursery to be able to work, privatising the nursery will take away a valuable provision with no replacement. I have not yet met a parent that wants the nursery privatised. Its unclear as to why Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) would spend money to build a nursery for a private provider, surely if MCC builds it with public money, we should have a say in how it is spent. Why should a private provider get a brand new purpose built nursery to make money off a deprived community?

Its not just the nursery MCC in their consultation have highlighted the Welsh school need for a bigger school and King Henry VIII School (KHS) needs attention the building isn't fit for purpose. As far as I and many many others in the community can see is Deri View's students lose out. The Additional Learning Needs element at Deri View works very well; there is a lot that goes on that people don't realise. They offer emotional and welling support using Animal Assisted Therapy, nurture groups and there are several family support service that use Deri View as a hub. MCC are clearly not listening to the community who are asking "How does this benefit my child?". There are no clear plan as to how the school will ensure safeguarding with all ages being on one site. There is no parking planned, therefore many streets close to it will have much more traffic with parents taking their children to school. As primary children still need walking into school and can't just be dropped at the gate like secondary aged children.

We know we can't stop the rebuild. We are demanding more consultation on the school so that Deri view students don't lose out the school is constantly improving and increasing pupil numbers even though MCC state it is failing. Deri view parents have gone into school and spoken about their concerns because this is their school. This is quite unusual often in areas its difficult to engage parents and have a good relationship with them, but Deri View has a real community feel. MCC shouldn't over look this 16yrs is a long time to be in a school you don't like. It'll be hard for those that have an issue to trust the school for the rest of their child's education, I've asked MCC how they plan to positively engage with the community for that length of time but they cannot answer. The single most important indicator of attainment (how well a child achieves) is parental involvement and support. If the school messes up with just 1 family that then affects the whole family, all their life and then when they have their own children? Unless its done right the all through school will hinder education and community support not improve it.

I am a parent governor and I do not believe this is best for Deri View children, or the local community. This could potentially cause more issues than it fixes. Others can get involved by signing the petition, sharing this link & encouraging others to do the same
