High-tech foreign fraudsters creates & circulate fake social media business pages to steal from the ignorant. Often organized in a network of suppliers and couriers, the experience cyber criminals, often get away with free money from South Sudanese in Juba. They usually limit payments to mobile money for easy withdrawal. Normally after payment, they send a fake tracking link and codes to give u the false hope that the item purchased is on transit. They keep in updating the link to give more false hope. At some point, they Indicate in tracking that Package on Hold - Custom Tax. Then, the focal agent will text u that check the tracking info, something somewhere is wrong. Of course when u open the link, it confains the exact info. They charge any amount, on my personal experiences just 2 days back, they charged US152 as Customs Tax for only a Laptop. The false courier will threaten extra charges if payment is delayed, just to push u in paying them faster. Remember, payment's are solely made to Mpesa, and I strongly believe it's a Kenyan scam project. Shortly after payment, they will change the tracking info to "Item Released". They keep updating as on the trackibg schedule. Upon the faked entry of item to destination, they update the tracking info - Item on Hold - Customs and Clearance. U will be notified by an email to check ur tracking, and they shall put u to send clearance urgently otherwise delays shall be charged. For my case, that was where I realized it was a scam. They demanded for US$200, as clearance. Imagine, I paid US$300 for a laptop including delivery charges, but with their tracking tricks, they forced me to pay $152 fake Custom tax. Finally, they pressurized me to pay the US$200, which motivated me to carry out my own analysis. I told them, why should I send $200 to Mpesa to clear a property that is 2 kilometers away at the Airport entry port, they said, it's their policy. I request for the contact of courier agent, but they insisted on the threats extra charge for delays. I took a minute and got back to the real self, the scam suspicion was beyond doubt. I felt fooled, humiliated and cheated with also a bonus of $152. I swear this guy's are merciless, they can skillfully make someone pay their charge, with the desperate hope of receiving a property, that does not exist. One thing that nearly made shed tears was a thought that pained me badly till to-date. I asked myself this question, If these scammers can skillfully cheated the educated me, how safe are the 73% South Sudanese with low or no literacy rates. Then, I took it upon myself to do everything possible to stop this silent extortion. The problem is that, victims do not complain or reveal themselves for fear of being teased or laughed at. This inevitably leads to the conclusion that, the wicked foreign scammers have made millions from this project. Enough is enough, let my extortion be the last, let's join hands and kick these idiots forever. We much launch massive nationwide sensitization campaigns, track these criminals, shut down their websites and businesses. So please, the key takeaway note, is that do not buy any product online, more especially, when Mpesa is the payment mode. Due to the booming business, these online shopping adverts and multiplying day by day - putting our citizens at the center of highly skilled foreign fraudsters. Say No to Cybercrime! Report any case to the authorities. I argue an assessment to establish the estimate of victims. Yesterday, I immediately reported the 2 companies the tricked me to the Anti Cyber Fraud international. This is my humble request, if we (who have the capacity to track these criminals) can not protect our people, then, we are not different from the criminals. Start the fight now!
