Hi my name is Sam and I am an Essential Frontline Healthcare Hero!

I am a Housekeeper/Service Aide who is employed at a NYC public hospital. At the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic lives were lost and lives were being saved by doctors and nurses. But there were other Essential Frontline Heroes who cleaned the sick, transported the sick and deceased, cleaned the beds, rooms, and delivered the food on a daily basis. Some of those titles are Patient Care Associates (PCA), Service Aide (Housekeeper), Patient Escort, Behavioral Health Associate (BHA), Dietary Aide, Mortuary Technician, and Operating Room Technician just to name a few.

There are many other DC37/Local 420 titles who sacrificed and lost their lives to the COVID-19 Pandemic while providing healthcare to NYC residents. The reason for this story is so that the employees who are not doctors and nurses may also be recognized as Frontline Healthcare heroes on television, in newspapers, social media campaigns, advertising ads, news conferences and cable news feeds etc.

In addition, myself and other Local 420 employees of the New York City Health & Hospital Corporation not only demand to be recognized as essential workers but we also want the essential pay and/or bonuses that the Federal, State and City agencies agreed that we deserve.
