Statement of Solidarity with Free Speech

January 31,  2019

We, the undersigned, stand in solidarity with Free speech.

Free speech is a concept that most college aged kids and professors do not fully understand. As professors and students try to rally people up around a concept of “hate speech” they leave out very little facts.

We support free speech at every university for everyone, even those who disagree with us. Professors and students who disagree with conservative thought have a long history of bringing false information to college campuses and indoctrinate their students with what they believe, as part of their recruitment to the socialist propaganda they try to promote.

Allowing conservative speakers, such as Ben Shapiro, is allowing college students to hear a different side. The purpose of higher education is to challenge people to learn to think for themselves. However, universities have turned into indoctrination camps. Further, as pointed out by the First Amendment, a right that all U.S. Citizens have, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” This principle was upheld in the supreme court case of Tinker v. Des Moines, 1969, which states, “It can hardly be argued that either students or teachers shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate...the constitution says that congress (and the states) may not abridge the rights to free speech. This provision means what it says.” It is no accident that the Left continues to try to attack speech they do not agree with, targeting it as hate speech.. The emboldened Left targets the suppressed with vile insults and threats directed at their identities.

The hate mail and threats directed against free speech are not isolated phenomena, but part of a campaign of intimidation and harassment against those standing in solidarity with conservative viewpoints.

Conservatives who express differing points of view tend to be targeted by multiple professors and peers, along with other clubs on campus. This does not stop Conservatives from standing their ground, but instead makes them more willing to fight for free speech.

These attacks are evidence of a disturbing rise in the confidence of left-wing extremists around the country. We call on others to stand in unity and solidarity with all those who are being harassed and threatened by peers and professors for speaking out against anti-American principles, such as free speech.

We demand that all citizens and the broader academic community defend and protect the constitutional right and cultural value of free speech for every viewpoint.
