Dawn Peterson started this petition to Representative Liz Cheney and

Too many people are addicted to opioids and are still in pain. Marijuana can be used for people who suffer from epilepsy, autism, muscle spasms, severe back pain, PTSD, depression, insomnia, glaucoma, anorexia, chemotherapy, anxiety, and more. All of this can be eased by the effects of Cannabis rather than addictive opioids (pain pills). There is a huge misconception about the difference between using marijuana recreationally and using cannabis for medical purposes. A friend of mine who suffers from severe back pain had a brother who died of alcoholism at the age of 38; her sister was imprisoned for manufacturing and distributing meth. She absolutely does not want to go down the same addictive path her siblings went down. Instead, she uses cannabis but only for medicinal purposes. My niece lost her mom because she past away from an overdose of pain meds she became addicted to after a surgery. In addition to these two women, I know many other people who suffer every day in excruciating pain and take very addictive opioids that barely ease the pain. One friend has multiple daily seizures than can be eased with Cannabis but instead takes a handful of pills everyday and still has seizures. Another friend of mine is unable to work because of all the pain meds he’s on. He WANTS to work but no one will hire him because he’s a liability due to all the meds he’s on. These pills are part of the reason they can’t work; because they’re too high to function properly on prescribed medications. Cannabis is helpful in this situation. A person does NOT need to be “high” to be functional without pain. I ask everyone to please sign this petition so our voices can be heard! More people would be employable, contribute to society and the economy if they did not have to take medications such as Methadone, Percocet, Vicodin, and other extremely addictive medications and use a natural resource instead. In addition, the state of Wyoming’s economy would greatly benefit from the profits of the sales of Cannabis. There would be more money for our roads and education, which are greatly effected by the states recent economic downfall. There would be no need to keep taxing everything from small business owners to Wyoming becoming a nuclear waste dump. Also, the need to house individuals for marijuana crimes would no longer be necessary. Housing these individuals costs tax payers money! It removes them from the system where the taxpayers aren’t responsible for their needs and they’re productive because they can return to being employed. It costs the state money to prosecute these people. This money can be used elsewhere.
