Recently council adopted new meeting procedures suggested by the state government that empowers the CEO to deem what items are suitable to go onto council meeting agendas. Previously a councillor had the right to submit a meeting agenda item, on behalf of residents, to then be debated by the elected mememem, provided it was received 7 days prior to the meeting.

Under these new provisions, in order to table an item, elected members are required to seek approval from the CEO. This shifts the power from the elected members to an unelected public servant of the council.

Support this petition, cut the red tape, and help reinstate a councillor's right to table an agenda item at their discretion in service of you.
