Leah gibbons started this petition to Liverpool City Council

We as parents/carers of children with a wide range of complex needs have been discriminated against and treated unfairly by Mike Kearney of Liverpool City Council. Our children used to love attending Ged and staff's boxing programme held at the Rotunda gym, Kirkdale, Liverpool, this programme has been running for the past 4 years and was something both our children, their siblings and parents enjoyed. Unfortunately, this was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it recently reopened around 6 weeks ago, but the locks have since been changed and our children have not been allowed back into the gym. Ged has told us that there are guidelines to follow and safeguarding problems. The gym is owned by Liverpool City Council, and we were left with no venue or equipment to hold our sessions.

Our children have been attending these sessions, and we have seen their confidence and self esteem increase massively, they have been able to mix with other children and earn lifelong friends. Unfortunately due to the wide range of complex needs, our children are not able to go out on their own and mix with others, therefore they rely on these sessions to improve important life skills. This has also been part of their routine, which is extremely important to them, without a routine our children can become severely distressed and upset, and it is difficult as parents to watch and deal with this, just because the council decided they didn't want them there anymore. It is disgusting that they have been kicked out onto the streets without anything else being arranged for us.

Thanks to Ged and his amazing staff team, they have been provided our kids with these sessions off their own back, held outdoors in places like Stanley Park. Councillor Barry Kushner attended a session recently in Stanley Park and spoke to every single person present, he was lovely. Unfortunately, this means that a lot of the time, these kids are doing this in the pouring down rain.

We are creating an action group in hopes that people in Liverpool City Council will finally listen to us and never discriminate against our children again.

Our kids do not have a voice of their own, but we do!!

Please share this so Liverpool City Council will stop discriminating and getting away with it!!
