S Shepherd started this petition to Liverpool City Council and

When the Mersey tunnels where built, the people of the North West were promised that the fee would only be in place until the payment of the tunnel being built was returned. They were built in 1934 and 1971 and sadly this promise has still not been fulfilled.

Not only has the fee not been removed, it has continued to rise. The people of Merseyside and surrounding areas, not only have to pay to travel to work, but they  have to pay to visit family members. They have also offered discount travel to people with certain post codes. This is simply unacceptable.

During the pandemic and first lockdown, the Mersey tunnels were made free to travel through, to help key and critical workers get to work or to travel to family members to help with childcare.

This should be put in place again to help people in the new lockdown and the tunnel should remain free as promised them many years ago.

Please show your support by signing this petition and sharing it to your friends and family. Together we can make a difference.
