My name is William Daugherty, and I am a formerly homeless, 24-year-old native of San Francisco. I am an advocate for the homeless, having co-chaired Larkin Street Youth Service’s Youth Advisory Board, regularly volunteering at Martin Depores soup kitchen, and am a current member of the Youth Policy and Advisory Committee. As an advocate with lived experience, I strongly recommend fully appreciating the testimony and power of those who also have experienced being homeless. There are perspectives that can only be gained by having slept with the concrete as one’s pillow.

As the only appointed formerly homeless person on the CA Homeless Coordinating and Financing Council, Gary McCoy has the policy experience, passion, and drive to lead the council as Chair in 2019.We need him representing the homeless community at large in this leadership role on the council. His experience and motivation to the cause will bring a level of commitment as well as compassion that is needed at the state level in addressing homelessness through Housing First. Please sign our petition to urge Housing and Community Development to recommend Gary McCoy as Chair-Elect - we want to end homelessness and we want it done right.
