The live in Caregiver Program had provided an opportunity for caregivers, mostly women, to permanently settle in Canada with their own families once they fulfill their nanny requirements.
But the longer waits for permanent resident status for those already here is fuelling speculation the program may be in jeopardy, not to mention the issues under this long wait. The implied status that keep caregivers in a "limbo"situation not being able to get health care, work in other area and do not leave the country.
It now takes 18/19 months to received the open work permit and more 18 months for the permanent resident status and this number increase every week. Compared to 6 to 8 months a year ago — to get an open work permit while their immigration application is in process (1st stage of approval).
With this situation the Caregivers are made to work longer to fill in the gap, what was 2 years for residency, turned into 4 years.
Longer is the waiting before be able to work for someone else or to be reunite with their families.
If they just approve the Open work permit faster we caregivers are able to move on with our lives.
