Heritage Greens Neighbors Request Firm Decision Regarding Elementary School Boundaries
Why this petition matters
Background
Recent Long-Range Planning Committee meetings have indicated the high likelihood the Heritage Greens neighborhood will transition to Dr. Justina Ford Elementary for the 2022-23 school year. While we will be content with a decision to move to Ford or stay at Lenski for the long-term, many families are concerned about the potential decision to move our children one year after the new school officially opens. As you know, our children have faced numerous obstacles over the past year concerning the ongoing COVID pandemic, and for their mental and physical well-being, consistency is paramount. If our children transition to a new school, they should start at Ford with the entire cohort of new students and faculty in the fall of 2021. Attending a brand new school may be thrilling, but it will also come with the inevitable fear of change. However, a fall 2021 transition will help minimize the social/emotional impacts as all students and faculty will have a shared experience. It will also provide consistency to younger students who are at the beginning of their elementary school years. Many Heritage Greens families rely heavily on the LPS bus system, so optionally enrolling in Ford for the 2021-2022 school year is not a reasonable solution.
Petition
We, the undersigned residents of the Heritage Greens neighborhood, call on the Littleton Public Schools Board of Education to make a firm, long-term decision to zone Heritage Greens to either Lois Lenski Elementary or Dr. Justina Ford Elementary so that students may attend said school in the 2021-2022 school year and moving forward.
