Little Rock Curbside Compost Collection

Little Rock Curbside Compost Collection
Why this petition matters
Other cities have local compost pickups and, we do not! This makes it significantly harder for Little Rock residents to compost and, further, means lots of compostable materials are ending up in the landfill. If composted, this material could be used to make good, fertile soil which, could not only be beneficial for your garden but the environment as a whole.
In Lawrence, Kansas, the city provides a weekly, curbside compost pickup for any of its residents willing to pay a sixty-dollar, one-time-fee for a compost bin. It then takes the collected materials to a local compost center which, takes care of the compost until it can be sold as fertile soil to the Lawrence community.
In Little Rock, we don't have this luxury. If you want to compost, you are required to, on your own, find a place to take your compostable materials and find a way to transport them to that location. This makes it incredibly inconvenient to compost but composting is so good for the environment and reduces the amount of waste that ends up in our landfills.
By signing this petition, you are asking our city officials to implement a curbside compost pickup program similar to the one seen in Lawrence, Kansas.
Little Rock needs to do better about lowering its carbon footprint and not contributing to the further degradation of our environment.
