Young children and adolescents across Ontario are being lured into sexual exploitation every day. Their traffickers have honed their craft, excel at navigating social media and befriending our children.  Many of the youth, and their teachers, have no idea what exploitation is or that it may be happening to them, it is for this reason why the Ontario government needs to implement the subject of human trafficking into the Sexual Education/Health Curriculum.

Prevention is the best strategy in combatting human trafficking, it is also cost-effective. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are being spent every year on health care, counseling, and emergency housing for children and youth who have been trafficked.  More importantly, it will ensure that our province is doing everything humanly possible to protect our youth from living a sorrowful life.  We have heard and read countless horror stories of torture, abuse, and pain that the victims of human trafficking have endured because they had no idea that a boyfriend could exploit in them this way, or that a friend was not as trustworthy as they thought.

The younger generations deserve the right to be properly informed about consent, sexual exploitation, and online predators so that they can protect themselves and their peers. It is the job of the educators to equip our youth with the knowledge and understanding they need to protect themselves from being lured into this modern day slave trade.  Human trafficking is a serious problem in Ontario and needs to be addressed NOW.

After meeting with Minister of Education in 2017 we learned that they would not be considering any changes to current curriculum.  Lisa Thompson and Doug Ford are now in the consulting phase to modify it.  This petition is to make sure they add the subject of human trafficking and sexual exploitation to the curriculum.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION SO WE CAN ACT FAST TO MAKE CHANGE.
