SUPPORTED ACCOMMODATION FOR HOMELESS PEOPLE IN THE GREATER GEELONG AREA

In Geelong, right now over 1000 people are sleeping rough.
My name is Cassidy Connor. I am 12 years old and I am very concerned about the growing number of homeless people in the Geelong area.
I volunteer on the Salvation Army Outreach Bus so I have met some of these people first hand. Once you spend some time with them, you come to understand that homelessness affects people of all different ages, from a range of backgrounds. There are also many factors which cause people to become homeless.
The one thing that these people do have in common is that there is not enough supported housing in the Greater Geelong area for people experiencing homelessness.
This petition is asking Christine Couzens, the Local Member for Geelong, Lisa Neville, the Local Member for the Bellarine, and Kelvin Spiller, CEO of the City of Greater Geelong, to increase the number of emergency beds available for homeless people in our region.
We are also asking for an increase in supported accommodation options for people experiencing homelessness. The services needed include:
· Training and job support
· Drug and alcohol support
· Life skills training
· Long term, affordable accommodation
Christine Couzens, Lisa Neville and Kelvin Spiller. We are asking you to help these people by providing supported accommodation for homeless people in the Greater Geelong area.
With 1000 homeless people sleeping rough, the time to act is now.
