Southwest Cobb County residents are petitioning the Cobb County Department of Transportation to rectify our dangerous and stressful traffic situation at the intersection Factory Shoals Road and Riverside Parkway (near the Dollar General).

The influx of commercial and industrial entities on Factory Shoals Road have also increased traffic on Riverside Parkway, a direct route to Interstate 20, for a large number of Southwest Cobb residents. When heading east on Riverside Parkway toward Interstate 20 and entering the turn lane to turn on Factory Shoals Road, the intersection is a major bottle neck for residents with an average one car turning left per light change during peak traffic times. Residents attempting to make a left hand turn onto Factory Shoals Road (toward Gordon Road) are challenged with limited visibility of oncoming traffic due to cars and trucks in the left hand turn lane who are traveling west on Riverside Parkway and turning left onto Factory Shoals Road (toward Thornton Road). This results in additional hazards for residents traveling east on Riverside Parkway toward Factory Shoals as the traffic in the left hand turn lane backs up to the singular entrance of the Dollar General, located at 710 Riverside Parkway. As patrons are leaving the store , they have difficulty entering the turn lane to make a left turn onto Factory Shoals Road and merging with traffic traveling east towards Interstate 20 during peak traffic times.

We have residents who are trying to make a left turn taking risks and making potentially fatal decisions in moments of impatience in an effort to try to get through the traffic light and avoid pedestrians walking into traffic flow. This is dangerous, frustrating, and extremely stressful.  It affects our quality of life and is creating hazardous situations for pedestrians and residents on a daily basis. We are petitioning the Cobb County Department of Transportation to install a left turn traffic light at this intersection to reduce hazardous conditions, promote pedestrian safety, and reduce resident wait times.

Thank you for your support.
