Stop Industrial-Scale Solar on Agricultural - Rural Land in Linn County, IA

Stop Industrial-Scale Solar on Agricultural - Rural Land in Linn County, IA
Why this petition matters
Rural communities within Linn County including Center Point, IA, Palo, IA, and Toddville, IA are being threatened by industrial-scale solar projects. The proposed project wants to destroy 3,500 acres of agricultural/rural land to develop an industrial-scale solar power plant. Industrial-scale power plants need to be properly placed on industrial or commercial zoned areas and not on agricultural and residential zoned land.
These solar projects would allow for installation of large numbers of solar panels on farmland, woodlands, and rural land. The environment, wildlife, our watershed, and resident property values would be harmed. This project would be funded by tax-payer subsidies and huge corporate tax credits. The small amount of energy created by this project over 3,500 acres of land would NOT reduce electric rates in our county.
These solar plant projects threaten the rural character of our lands, resident property values, wildlife habitat, and our watershed. We oppose industrial-scale solar on agriculture/rural lands in Linn County, IA.
