"Imagine" a Better Mascot: Change the Lancer to the Lennon.

In light of controversy surrounding a recent ban on the offensive and racist headdress worn by members of Linganore High School's student section, "The Tribe," at school sporting events, members of our community have questioned what we can do to maintain traditions and celebrate history without juvenile and downright racist rituals.
The answer is simple: get rid of the Lancer mascot all together. Mascots are stupid and completely meaningless. They are a way for simpletons to conceptualize spirit, but our mascot is not worth the trouble and harm it has caused. Community, spirit, and tradition at our school are deeper and more substantial than that. But for those who feel we still need a mascot, and one with historical and alliterative value the answer is simple, and it's one all the eggmen can support.
Here's some history for you. LHS opened it's doors to students in the fall of 1962, but the first full calendar year spent at the school was 1963... the same year The Beatles released Please Please Me and With The Beatles, 2 of the greatest records ever. In the 54 years since Linganore students and members of the community (And the whole world) from all backgrounds and walks of life have enjoyed the beautiful melodies of John Lennon. Our love of Linganore, like our love of Lennon, knows no bounds.
We the signers of this petition call on the greater LHS community to change our disparaging mascot and "Come Together" behind a new one: The Linganore Lennons!
