Students at Linfield University have access to the Xfinity On Campus streaming service that allows them to further access platforms like HBO Max, Peacock and Live TV. This is included with each student’s tuition and the contract is currently up for renewal. It has been assumed that students do not utilize this resource and are using other streaming services they already pay for. Administration are leaning towards not renewing the contract with Xfinity due to this assumption.

Due to the past two years of the pandemic there has been a lack of Xfinity representation on campus when it was needed. Linfield has not created an effective alternative recourse for students to learn how to access their Xfinity account therefore we as students have missed out on information. Students who also do not have an alternative to Xfinity will then have to have an additional cost added to their annual personal bills along with tuition. This contract renewal will impact Linfield students who currently attend the university as well as students of the future.

This petition has been endorsed by the Associated Students of Linfield University (ASLU) Cabinet. We as an organization feel that all students, if they were well informed, would use their access to Xfinity. Having a recourse like this makes an outlet for all students to build community, decompress from stressful days, and afford a streaming platform while in college. We hope that as the pandemic slowly declines Xfinity will be allowed back on campus so that they may keep students well informed about their services. ASLU would also like to mention that Xfinity has long given countless physical recourses to our residence life community to enhance student life like toiletries, kitchen ware, and laundry supplies.
