STOP Dollar General/DGX's Plan to Move to Heart of Historic Third Ward!

It has come to our attention that the Dollar General store has plans to bring their DGX store to the 300 block of Broadway, just south of Wicked Hop. Help us STOP their plans by signing this petition. Why?
The Historic Third Ward is one of the city’s creative hubs, home to art galleries and studios in former warehouses, and performing arts venues like the Broadway Theatre Center. Restaurants and patio dining is popular. Indie stores sell fashion and homeware, while the indoor Milwaukee Public Market has produce, cheese and fish vendors. From the 36 years of rebuilding with exceptional architecture after the 1892 fire to the fight in the 1970’s to stop a red-light district in the area, our Historic Third Ward neighborhood is proud to maintain a vibrant and creative community with a balanced mix of businesses from local to national. In 2005, the City approved a Comprehensive Development Plan that “Broadway’s restaurant and specialty theme should be reinforced”. We believe that Broadway, our most visible shopping street, should be the place to find great, unique places and DGX does not fit that plan. We embrace independent and national stores that provide a quality product or service.
Dollar General's big box corporate model (comparable to or larger than Walmart), will make it difficult or impossible for local businesses to compete. We do not want to turn Broadway into a cliche of other city malls.
Please join us by signing the petition to stop their plans to move to Third Ward.
