Allow LHS Esports To Stream And Announce Their Games
The Lindbergh High School Esports program were recently approved to begin playing the game Valorant against other Missouri schools in the MOSEF spring session. The team was made aware that no form of recording or streaming of the matches would be allowed due to district policy against media and violence. This alienates students who want to be a part of esports such as announcers and social media managers who chose not to play the games but rather share the fun with fans by announcing and streaming the games. This decision also cuts off many parents and the student body from being able to participate and support players during their games. Esports is quickly becoming as big as sports like basketball and football with student athletes being able to get college scholarships and even make careers out of playing and announcing games. By cutting off the ability to broadcast it prevents student announcers from gaining necessary skills to move into fields of interest like sports broadcasting or colligate esports. We understand the concern of displaying violence and are committed to not using problematic wording such as "kill" or "bomb" in the broadcasts, but we feel as though if presented with voice announcing and in a sport like environment that this shows nothing but a positive environment built around team work and student growth. (Note: Esports streams can be set as age restricted for younger viewers if that is a concern as well.)
