Lincolnshire West Clinical Commissioning Group has been notified of proposals to close Skellingthorpe branch surgery. It is likely that if the closure were to go ahead, a single facility would serve both Saxilby and Skellingthorpe. The proposed changes would affect over 8000 patients registered at the Skellingthorpe branch, and alternative health centers are difficult to access.

We believe:

  • That this will concentrate pressures on Saxilby and other local branches, at a time when many residents are already waiting too long to access appointments.
  • That there is insufficient alternative local healthcare provision to conveniently accommodate patients.
  • That whilst rural areas pose specific challenges, these challenges must be met to ensure everyone in Lincoln can access their GP without worrying about a long or expensive journey.

We ask Lincolnshire West Clinical Commissioning Group:

  • To keep Skellingthorpe Health Centre open.
  • To ensure any public consultation plays a central role in the final decision of closure.
  • To ensure current patients at Skellingthorpe branch surgery are not forced to relocate to a GP that cannot meet their needs.
