I believe the council made the decision to close the libraries and only paid lip service to consultation. When challenged they changed their criteria. That was not acceptable and they should be ashamed.

Libraries are important, politicians genuinely representing the people is important, trust is important, honesty is important, being accountable for your actions is important. These members of LCC have failed to understand that any of these things are important and are therefore not fit to perform to the role they have been placed in and should stand down x

Trying to run a public service using the same principles as a commercial business may sound attractive, but it leads some of our councillors to be believe that they are no longer accountable to the people that have elected them.
Annoying as it might seem to an executive that just wants to push ahead with a radical strategy...negotiation and compromise is the only fair way to serve the population.

Local libraries are an essential and central part of a community. They provide a social drop-in, information centre, a place for groups to meet from babies to elderly, a place for local people of all ages to use and learn how to use IT, and update their knowledge and skills, for children to do homework, a meeting place, a place to chill out for those who prefer to read and chat (silence in libraries is obsolete). Above all it is a place for information, discussion and social gatherings.

I'm signing this petition because I think the LCC Executive Committee have behaved in a narrow minded and foolish manner in their determination to close libraries, despite the amount of public support to maintain these libraries. The council's bigoted and unprofessional behaviour has wasted vast amounts of taxpayer's money, all because they were not prepared to listen to the very people they are appointed to serve.

Councils kill library services as an easy option without thought to the long term. It's about time a council served as an example of what happens to those who betray the public trust.

The consultation was an insult to literate people. It bore no relation to the actual issue. That our council wanted to withdraw, rather than provide services.
