Iniciada por Lincoln HS Students

Lincoln School started enforcing a rule which banned all hoodies/sweaters that were not plain blue or a darker shade.

Whilst we, the Lincoln HS student body, believe it is great that the school is maintaining a certain standard and expects proper attire from their students, we believe hoodies and sweaters to be an accessory that, when worn occasionally (hence, in the cold Lincoln mornings and rainy afternoons), does not go against the image a proper Lincoln student should represent. We understand the previous statement goes to an extent (colorful and vibrant hoodies/sweaters are obviously off limits), but we ask that neutral-colored, relatively plain hoodies and sweaters be allowed. These include the Lincoln blue, gray, black, brown, white, and any other grey-scale color. We believe that, to an extent and with reason, our creativity and different senses of style should be allowed to express themselves freely (especially given the fact every other aspect of the uniform - shirt, pants, even shoes - are essentially the exact same for everyone). A neutral-colored choice of hoodies/sweaters are an optimal way to compensate for this by giving us students relative freedom while maintaining a standard, well-put-together uniform attire for school.

As students, our lives are dictated/driven by much more than just our academics. They're pushed forward by passions that we pursue 24/7 (that can either be sports, building our own startups/companies and ventures, gaming, social media, and much more). Given the fact said elements form such critical parts of our lives, we should be able to freely express said passions through hoodies/sweaters (within reason, as mentioned earlier). Lastly, we wanted to leave you with questions we not only ask ourselves constantly, but would also like the people in charge to consider as well: What kind of culture are we building at Lincoln? One that embraces difference, supports individuality, and promotes one's passions, or one that forces adult-designed/driven norms onto students that simply do not make that much sense, could be improved upon, and students had no say in whatsoever?

Our vision for Lincoln is a school that is built from within by the community, for the community.
