Reconsider vote to shut down music major at LMU
This petition had 1,164 supporters
Recently faculty and students of Lincoln Memorial University were informed that the LMU Board of Trustees has voted to shut down the music major program. It is expected that while the major will be gone, the music groups including concert band, choir, jazz ensemble, and the Splitter Sound Machine will continue to live. This is difficult to believe, however. Without a major there is no need for professors to teach. In turn, without those professors there are no musical groups. Without the major to drive the program forward, these ensembles will surely suffer.
This is a devastating blow to those involved. For many, the campus music program has provided unlimited support, stress relief, and encouragement throughout the challenging curriculums of college. Extreme concern for the future of these groups and this program is what prompts this petition.
The goal of this petition is to encourage the Board of Trustees to reconsider their decision and reinstate the music major at Lincoln Memorial University.
