Librarians working at Limpopo Provincial Libraries are under siege. These colleagues have been working under conditional grant for over 10 years. In 2019, The Director General of the National Department of Arts & Culture had issued a directive to all Provinces to convert all Library Conditional grant contracts to permanent contracts, the DG has also made funds for this. The deadline was June 2019. Oher provinces such as Mpumalanga have executed the order successful and without any audit quieries.. The Executive Management of Limpopo Provincial Department of Sport,Arts & Culture has opted to threaten the Job Security of over 120 Library officials. They decided that they will sideline the directives of the DG and advertise those post. They even called officials working and Capricorn District Libraries and told them that they are intending to advertise and there is no guarantee that anyone will be retained. This they do with absolute impunity and utter disregard to the wellbeing of their colleagues. My biggest concern is the threat of telling some Library staff that they will not be appointed and the high level of nepotism we have seen in that Department. They also don't have capacity to advertise 120 vacancies and follow a fair recruitment processes. Please save our profession.
