Government ministers are entitled to a termination payment of approximately £17k whether they resign or are sacked and irrespective of time in the role. More than 80 individuals have been entitled to this payment since the start of 2022.

The government needs to urgently review this scheme and introduce a minimum tenure period for entitlement to avoid this huge cost to the taxpayer in the event of 'revolving door' cabinets such as we have seen recently.
