Limit congressional terms and reform representation
Limit congressional terms and reform representation
The Issue
Our government is built on the principle of representation. As a concerned citizen, I have seen firsthand how disconnection grows between elected officials and the people as career politicians serve decade after decade in office. This is why I am calling for transformative reforms to ensur truly represents us and protects our rights.
First, Congress should be limited to no more than eight years in office. Implementing term limits of three two-year terms for the House and tow six year terms for the Senate will foster a continual refresh of ideas and perspectives in the legislature, aligning Congress more closely with the rapidly evolving needs and views of our society. Furthermore, ensuring that Congress members complete their second term by the age of 70 encourages a dynamic and energetic legislative body ready to meet today's challenges head-on.
Secondly, by expanding the House of Representatives, we can achieve more equitable representation. A larger House means more direct representation for the citizens and easier access to engage with our elected officials. Around the world, several nations maintain a broader spectrum and less concentrated political power, offering us a model of the benefits increased representation can bring.
It's essential that we also limit the invasive use of surveillance technologies like Flock cameras, which infringe upon our Fourth Amendment rights. Protecting our privacy and freedom from unwarranted surveillance is foundational to maintaining public trust and individual liberty.
Join me in urging our leaders to embrace these crucial reforms, reinvigorate our democracy, and ensure a government that listens and serves its people effectively and justly. Sign this petition to demand realistic, fair, and contemporary changes in Congress for a stronger, more representative American democracy.
