The Minister of Agriculture issued a statement about a ban of moving livestock due to foot and mouth disease. As livestock Traders we sell livestock for slaughtering purposes and this is affecting our livelihoods,in KZN we have been hit by Covid-19,Looting and floods and to this date the Govt has not even tried to assist us and now this ban we feel that it is affecting our livelihoods yet we are not consulted in such but they just apply a blanket approach. As livestock traders we rely on sales of livestock as people slaughter for ritual purposes.In the Midlands and the Southern part of KZN we do not have any information of any cases that have been found,therefore the ban of movement of cattle within the Southern part of KZN and Midlands does not make sense at this point.We feel that the government should have stopped movement of cattle from Red flags or areas where there are cases reported whilst allowing the other parts of KZN to operate.
