With the current unrest involving Russia and Ukraine we are seeing unprecedented cost of living rises. In particular petrol and diesel prices. These are currently at an all time high and are only on the rise. With fuel being the largest overhead for a taxi driver we urge LDC to hold an emergency meeting where we propose that the council allow us to charge £1 to £1.50 surcharge on each journey before and after midnight respectively as long as the fuel price remain under £2 per litre. If the fuel price reaches or exceeds £2 per litre we prepose the surcharge to be £2 before midnight and £3 after midnight. We urge the council to keep in mind that these are emergency and temporary changes required which would be removed at a later stage when the fuel crisis is over.
