Many scholars would like to eliminate the school dress code for uniforms. I do agree that they can be “bland”, but I know they prevent bullying because we all look the same. You also cannot tell who has a more economically successful family. However, I would like to suggest having a school spirit shirt and a pair of jeans as a dress code additions for Fridays. We are already allowed to wear school spirit shirts with a pair of uniform bottoms. But why can't we wear a spirit shirt with jeans? If teachers can wear jeans and stay in dress code, why can't we scholars? This will also increase awareness of our several clubs/organizations like NHS, marching band, JROTC, Drama Club, Sports, etc. The school can also sell more “Black Out” or, team spirit shirts at the same time. Even allowing us to wear our Polo shirts with a pair of jeans could be an option. I understand that ripped jeans are not allowed, so you should specify it if this “Jeans” dress code is approved. Students will also be more comfortable in a pair of bottoms they are comfortable with, which most people would say are jeans. Also, jeans on Fridays almost seems like a “special treat”. Even with this Friday “option” students will feel like they accomplished something. This school system has been through a lot the past few months and with virtual students getting to wear virtually anything they want (in dress code), we should have the ability to wear jeans, especially since we are doing so well socially distancing ourselves and sticking with the Covid-19 guidelines.
