Liberate the triple j Hottest 100 from "Like A Version" covers

Like A Version covers are a great part of our Friday, but in my humble opinion they have no place in our Australia Day (update: or 4th weekend in Jan!).
Since 2005, Like a Version covers have been appearing in the Hottest 100, and their influence on the iconic list has increased over the years.
However, every Like A Version that appears in this "National Institution" knocks out a song that is most likely original and also released in the conventional means. Is this a problem? You bet!
Like A Version is a fantastic weekly program but at the end of the day the artists are using good material, written by someone else, and they are getting free airplay on the national broadcaster. And so I believe the artists, as great as they are, are riding on the coat-tails of a good song, and a popular program. Therefore, to reward a cover song with a precious spot in the coveted Hottest 100 is a step too far.
This needs to STOP.
So let's "make the Hottest 100 version free again".
