The District Attorney General works for the people of the State of Tennessee. District Attorneys are subject to the same ethical standards as any other licensed attorney, in fact more so.
A prosecutor shall refrain from prosecuting a charge that the prosecutor knows is not supported by probable cause;
Amy Weirich became District Attorney in January of 2011. She was appointed by Governor Bill Haslam and then elected on August 3, 2012. General Weirich has refused to address the continual corruption within the Memphis Police Department and prosecute those who are appointed and elected officials. She has been highly publicized for not presenting the homicide of 15 year old Justin Thompson at the hands of ex-cop Terrance Shaw. Shaw has since been brought up on a rape and sodomy charges in Huntsville, Al. Weirich has used the Grand Jury to indict local civil rights advocates for charges to impede federal civil litigation and discredit them with Discrimination charges against American Apparel. Weirich also abused her power in dropping charges against known white drug dealers but continues to seek harsher punishment on 1st time black drug offenders. Weirich recently abused her power and released, and indictment to the media before it was filed with the court, of known local shock jock Thaddeus Mathews its not clear what crime he committed, but it all stems from a Facebook post. This District Attorney Weirich is more concerned with Facebook and personal vendetta's rather than the growing unsolved murder rate and prosecuting criminals in Memphis TN.
