Installing garbage traps in Asian rivers

In 2010 round 4.8 to 12.7 million tones of rubbish were dumped in the ocean with about 60% of the rubbish being dumped coming from Asian country’s such as China, Vietnam and the Philippines.
My idea is to install rubbish traps to help reduce the amount of rubbish being taken out to sea by rivers. These would work by channeling rubbish that would reach the sea into bins on the side of rivers that could be emptied. These kinds of traps have already been demonstrated in Melbourne keeping about 500 tones of rubbish from reaching the sea each year and if made in Asia on a bigger scale could keep thousand to tens of thousands of tonnes of rubbish from making it to sea.
