Save Blackheath fireworks

Blackheath Fireworks brings tens of thousands of people to SE London for a memorable night out that shows Lewisham in a positively magical light. After being cancelled last year because of Covid, this year's Fireworks are needed more than ever - and Lewisham Council have cancelled them! They say they don't have the money, but the facts tell a very different story.
The Chancellor recently gave Lewisham Council an extra £94m - equivalent to a year's worth of council tax receipts - taking central government's subsidy to £724m a year, up 15% on the previous year. In the meantime, the number of council staff earning over £50k went up by 18% to 868. This doesn't include NHS workers - they're paid by central government.
Lewisham Council wastes money openly, on the ridiculous 'Borough of Culture' scheme, on its laughably self congratulatory inhouse magazine 'Lewisham Life, on pointless high street advertising... the list is long.
There is no excuse for cancelling Blackheath Fireworks 2021.
