For the students at Plainview Old Bethpage Middle School, lockers are not really a part of the daily routine. We are entirely lucky to have a school that supplies these to us, but most kids find that their lockers aren't close to their classes or they don't have time to go and get their things in the few-minute break between periods. So, the majority of students just carry everything they need in their backpacks and skip the trip to their lockers. But, as of Monday, April 5, backpacks in classrooms are banned in all classes. This is absolutely ridiculous and there really isn't much reasoning for it. Now, whatever we do, kids will get in trouble. Go to your locker and be late? Trouble. Run to make it to class on time? Trouble. Bring your backpack because you really don't have time? Trouble. So what do they expect us to do? Help me bring backpacks back so trouble is off the table for those just trying to get around. I know the feelings of our students about this, so join me and bring backpacks back!
