I've decided to start a petition because something needs to be done about irresponsible dog owners walking their dogs in unsafe heat conditions.

 

This week we have been given a red weather warning in the UK. Meaning it is potentially dangerous to be out walking about. So why on earth do dog owners think it is reasonable to take their dogs out (who wear a fur coat and bare feet) on a dog walk. Heatstroke can happen in the blink of an eye, if you are not educated on what to do when it happens you could potentially risk losing your dog. This is something that people don't appear to be aware of. 

I truly believe that when weather temperatures rise, there should be adverts on TV showing heatstroke happening in dogs. It is a terrifying thing to witness. It scares me to think people don't know what to actually do if this was to happen to their dog. But what scares me even more is the pure neglect of taking your dog out in this heat anyway. It takes a human 6 weeks to acclimatize to hot weather. It takes a dog on average 7-60 days to acclimatize to the hot weather. In the UK we tend to have 2 hot days then no more for months. Therefore your dog can not get used to the temperature. 

Now i know there will be people out there who have rescue dogs who are from foreign country's. However unless they have not long been here, they will still find it a shock to the system.

I also know that some people live in flats, therefore their dog will need a toilet break. If you are not wanting your dog to use a puppy pad I strongly suggest carrying them to a grass or shaded area for a quick toilet break. Avoiding tarmac is a must! Especially in temperatures above 23+ in direct sunlight. 

 

 

Something needs to change. If a owner can be potentially fined for leaving a dog in a hot car how is walking them any different?

 

In my eyes this is pure neglect. Your dog is in pain and can't tell you with actual words. Your job is to keep them safe!
