Something exciting is happening in Springfield, TN and Robertson County and it has everything to do with recycling!

A need has arisen to determine alternative solutions to landfilling our waste. A good portion of material from Robertson County is being trucked a long way into Kentucky, and since TDEC (TN Department of Environment and Conservation) are not granting any new landfill permits in the state, recycling is quickly becoming the most viable and sensible option for handling our solid waste.

For the past six months, a company called Green Village Recycling has been investigating the potential for expanded recycling with a recycling pilot program in approximately 300 homes in the historic district of Springfield, TN. A lot people have been using and enjoying the service and OVER 15 TONS of material has been diverted from the landfill. The city and the county are currently having conversations pertaining to expanding recycling in residential neighborhoods of Springfield. You have the opportunity to have a say in this process.

Please take a moment to add your name to this petition if you agree that the City of Springfield and Robertson County need to create a local recycling solution.

If you wish to share more of your thoughts, feel free to comment on this petition or, even better, call and email the mayor, county mayor, board of aldermen, and county commissioners and let them know what you think.
