Why this petition matters

Started by Paul O'Brien

An important project I’ve been working on for sometime and I need your help, Currently, Australians are faced with an overwhelming number of mental health helplines and as we’ve sadly seen an increase in suicide. All these incredible organizations with incredible people have been helping many struggling people for years. However if you were in a time of need, do you know the lifeline number, the beyond blue number, the relationships Australia number?

I don’t think that in someones darkest moments, anyone should have help delayed while they search for the support service most appropriate to them. Similar if someone is breaking into your home you don’t search for the local police station number you call 000 so if something is breaking into your mind you should call 111 for immediate help.

I want to create a centralised call centre for care and protection with just a single number. We want to urge Australians to Call 111.

This year, on 1/11 (November 1, 2022) i want your help to call on the federal government to release this currently disconnected phone number,111.

Once the number is released, we want to form a one-solution call centre and centralise all mental health services in the national interest.

The 111 helpline will operate in the same way as Australia’s primary emergency call service number, Triple Zero (000), by connecting callers more easily with established mental healthcare helplines.

After calling 111, a trained professional will answer the call and stay with the caller until they have connected the call to the mental health care organisation or support service relevant to their needs.

111 will not only save lives, but will also:

- Reduce the overwhelming burden on 000 emergency services.
- Be easily remembered. We want to educate children on 111 the very same way we educated as kids on 000.
- Encourage a better understanding of the mental health issues affecting Australians. Vital statistics around which organisation each call is transferred to— and at what times — will reveal actionable data on which areas of mental health require more funding and support, whether its gambling, addiction, domestic violence, or children.

In the meantime, while we work on this 111 solution, please, if you or someone you know needs help, call:
