Montreal-East needs an English school for children with intellectual disabilities

Currently, no English schools in Montreal East offer specialized education and services for children and youth with intellectual disabilities. This has to change…
Each year more children are being diagnosed with intellectual disabilities. Autism alone affects 1 in 68 boys and 1 in 189 girls.
Did you know that children from Montreal East have to travel by bus approximately 3 hours/day to attend a specialized school? Our 10-year old son has been doing this for the last three years and will continue to do so until he is 21 years old.
An English special needs school in Montreal East will allow children with intellectual disabilities to access an education that is tailored to their needs, with classes being taught by teachers who are specialists. They also need access to free, one-on-one onsite services, such as speech therapy. Instead of sitting on a bus for long hours, these children can better use this time in class, to develop life skills, socialize with others and become autonomous. This will help them integrate into society and reach their full potential.
Every child in Quebec has the right to receive a proper education, so we ask that you sign our petition to inform the Provincial government about the urgent need for Montreal East to have an English school or a section in an existing school, solely dedicated to children and youth with intellectual disabilities.
Please sign, post and share our petition.
