NFL teams like the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburg Steelers have taken an alternate approach to their social media presence that is different than most professional sports teams have in the past.

Rather than following the typical, yet very professional route to gaining a following on social media, the aforementioned teams have shifted their content to appeal more towards the young adult audience.

Over the last decade, memes and funny videos have taken over the internet landscape. Some of the most followed pages on social media platforms that aren’t celebrities or large organizations are popular because of the comedic value they bring and the younger male generation loves it.

Organizations like the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburg Steelers are posting team related content but in the format that is similar to a meme page and their followers are loving it, due to the fact that the large majority of social media users are young adults along with the fact that most of the teams followers are young adult men. 

It is clear that the success of this format is leading other teams to follow suit. One of the teams that has yet to do that is the Indianapolis Colts. Not to say that their social media team isn’t already good, but signs show that a large amount of their audience would enjoy the new style of content.

I believe that @realchrisballard on Instagram is the best candidate for the job. He runs a successful Colts fan account that brings a comedic value that Colts fans can enjoy, which is needed greatly at the moment due to the team’s lack of success.
