Why this petition matters

Victims of all types of crimes, especially hate crimes, often experience a miscarriage of justice. The reason is because local law enforcement chose not to get the GBI or FBI involved. The current Georgia law requires law enforcement to decide if the state (GBI) or federal (FBI) agency should be involved. Sometimes these crimes require special investigative forensics that only these agencies can manage. So as result of not reporting or documenting crimes such as hate, victims continue to suffer.

When will elderly victims be protected? When can they live in their homes without being victimized repeatedly just to be told it's up to the chef to escalate your repeated crimes? Crimes get cold the longer it's not property investigated. Criminals know the law. So, they continue their crimes against citizens.

If victims can have direct access to the GBI, then repeated crimes, like happen to many, will decrease. The GBI can only act if law enforcement tell them to. We need help. Criminals know how to disarm cameras, and we shouldn't have to wait for a picture from a camera. These career criminals have never been brought to justice in many small towns in Georgia. The elderly are usually their target.

I ask that out governor and legislators pass a law in the state of Georgia so that crime victims can have the GBI investigate a crime without going through the local law enforcement. We need you to help us fight back.
